Against our expectations...

Against our expectations

stands this irony:

Life will require all kinds of sacrifice.

There is dignity and grace

in friendship

and unrequited love.

The future will not be

what you have imagined

in the past.

Assumptions will be shattered

expectations dashed,

proclivities restrained.

Love is the humanizing cost

to which we do not measure up

but come to find worthwhile.
